Dutchman

Dutchman is Phasm’s multimodal engine: it reads your CAD, sets the loads and ranks every weak spot in minutes.

  1. Reads the CAD first. Booms, joints, motor mounts and skins are classified before a single element is meshed.

  2. Load cases, set up for you. Hover, forward flight, hard landing and gust, generated from the geometry and applied at the right nodes.

  3. Results in minutes. The mesh is sized to the structure. Stress, displacement and margins come back while the design is still open.

  4. Weak spots ranked, with a fix. Each region is ranked by how close it comes to yield. The critical ones get a proposed change, sized to bring the stress down.

INFOROOM

Gust Loads

Small fixed-wing airframes see gust loads that scale differently from manned aircraft. Where the standard formulations break down at this size, worked on the Applied Aeronautics Albatross.

Motor Mounts

The propulsion spreadsheet and the FEA setup use the same number differently. How to get from static thrust to the force and moment that reach the mount, worked on the Holybro 2216 920KV.

Landing Loads

Copying a load factor from a manned aircraft spec gives you a number you can’t defend. How to derive one from descent rate and gear stiffness instead, worked on a Holybro X500 V2.

Arm Loads

Thrust, gyroscopic moment, landing impact, and vibration all show up at the arm. A walk through which ones set the design and which you can defer, worked on a Holybro X500 V2.
